According to the Croatian Citizenship Act, people who do not hold Croatian citizenship may apply for it on various grounds, among which is ancestral lineage. This means people with Croatian ancestors who emigrated from Croatia can apply for citizenship if they can prove lineage between themselves and an ancestor who was born in Croatia.
During this process, applicants have to provide various documentation, including birth and marriage certificates of their ancestors, some of which must be issued within Croatia.
These documents are always issued by an organization where the original books are kept, which are usually State archives or Records offices and rarely church archives or parish offices.
If you need help obtaining needed certificates, please contact us at certificates@sambunjak.com
We currently charge 130€ per certificate with an additional postage fee. When genealogical research is needed to find birth or marriage entries in vital books before starting the process, our current rate is 60€ per research hour.
